A Gratifying Interaction With A Mom

January 16, 2020

Alden Bourne and I started Berkshire Natural more than ten years ago because we wanted to see healthier options in vending machines for our young children.

Since then, the company has expanded far beyond healthy vending machines and now offers healthy snack and fresh fruit delivery to offices in the Greater Boston area.

But a recent interaction reminded me of our origins.

I don’t often re-stock vending machines as I did in our early days, but I had to do so a few weeks ago at the Discovery Museum in Acton, Massachusetts.

It was lunchtime and the place was very busy. There were lots of delighted children exploring and lots of tired parents chasing after them.

As I was refilling the machine, a mother got my attention.

She said, “I want to tell you how much I love this vending machine. I’m here once a week with my kids. I really appreciate all of the different healthy offerings but in particular, there are so many gluten-free options. Finding them is often a problem wherever I go. This is great!”

We designed the  machines to provide healthy options but also to serve the needs of people with restricted diets, including gluten free, tree nut free, peanut free and low glycemic. It’s part of what we can offer corporate clients as well.

After a decade in business and more and more satisfied customers, it’s always great to be reminded of why we started Berkshire Natural.
